A practical course that focuses on the basics of songwriting practice. 

Course Details

This is a 6 part, practical course that focuses on the basics of songwriting practice. 

The first three videos focus on lyric writing, getting into a flow state and feeling comfortable having fun and playing with words and melody. The more you write, the more inspiration you have for music making! After the first two workshops, you should have enough lyric tips to go and write a verse. Then, the following workshops focus on Songwriting fundamentals such as genre type, rhythm and melody. 

Overall, by the end of this course, you should have a better understanding of lyric writing and how to construct a melody and flow that suits your style. You should also be ready to move on to Becci’s Bandlab tutorial where you can bring your ideas to life!

Course Materials Required...

  • A quiet room where you feel safe to be creative with no judgement
  • Paper and Pen OR a writing device
  • Internet connection for a random word generator
  • About 20 mins per video

    Becci Wallace

    Becci Wallace is a songwriter, performer, producer, and music tutor based in Glasgow with over 20 years of experience in community music. 

    Becci is also a Commercial Music lecturer at UWS and mentor, with a passion for helping new artists develop their skills and voices.

    She is currently working on her third album with Scottish hip-hop producer Steg G, and completing a PhD focused on hip-hop education and its impact on young people.

    As a neurodivergent artist with ADHD, Becci gets that everyone’s brain works differently. She brings this awareness into her practice, always aiming to create welcoming, supportive spaces where participants feel safe to be themselves and explore their ideas in their own way.
