Course Details

This is a 9 part, practical course that focuses on embracing your hobbies and fandom by making a classic music fanzine. The course will show you the basics of the online program Canva, including finding templates, editing, generating AI content and pulling in content from the internet. 

The aim is to get you comfortable with digital design techniques while thinking about your creative voice and lines of inquiry into the things that you love. The point of a fanzine is to share the thing you want to talk about with your friends, family and local community.

Overall, by the end of this course, you should have a better understanding of creative digital design, using a really easy and user friendly piece of software. You can use the printing template and guide to print your zine or share it digitally with your friends. 

Course Materials Required...

  • A quiet room where you feel safe to be creative with no judgement
  • A laptop or desktop computer (both these preferred) OR a phone 
  • Internet access and access to a search engine
  • Around 20 mins to work on your Zine after each video

For those who love to express their passions in a creative way. The course will:
  • Introduce you to the basics of fan behaviours, music journalism and critique through Zine making
  • Support you to develop creative ideas and play with digital design techniques
  • Introduce you to the basics of Canva, a free online design platform
  • Encourage you to think critically about your favourite things by writing about them
  • Hopefully help you to feel more confident with your creative and critical voice

    Becci Wallace

    Becci Wallace is a songwriter, performer, producer, and music tutor based in Glasgow with over 20 years of experience in community music. 

    Becci is also a Commercial Music lecturer at UWS and mentor, with a passion for helping new artists develop their skills and voices.

    She is currently working on her third album with Scottish hip-hop producer Steg G, and completing a PhD focused on hip-hop education and its impact on young people.

    As a neurodivergent artist with ADHD, Becci gets that everyone’s brain works differently. She brings this awareness into her practice, always aiming to create welcoming, supportive spaces where participants feel safe to be themselves and explore their ideas in their own way.
